1. At the top of the Firefox windowOn the menu bar, click on the ToolsFirefoxEdit menu, and select Options...Preferences....
2. Select the General panel (Main panel in Firefox 3.5).
3. In the Downloads section, check the box for Show the Downloads window when downloading a file.
4. Click OKClose the preferences window
After you close the OptionsPreferences window, Firefox should open the Downloads window automatically when you download a file.
If the Downloads window still fails to open after downloading a file, continue with the instructions below.

Well this was a problem face by my sister laptop. Many a time she call me for the downloaded file. What I was doing is just type the file name and search in C drive and found the file. I never know that there is such option in firefox available. I really appreciate you work, thanks.

Ok so I think your problem is with you download destination location. so set it or you just reinstall it then you get all the setting default.
