so any of you guys have play this yet? i don't know whether to get it or not, since i don't know most of the character.

taken this from ign.

The game, developed by Idea Factory, is chock full of cameos and playable characters from their own games like Spectral Souls/Force and Blazing Souls, but slightly more well-known characters from Shadow Hearts, Gungrave and Growlanser (among others) also make appearances throughout the story.

That story focuses on a young and slightly impetuous (okay, fine, he's pretty much an a-hole) first-year student named Hyoma who apparently has something of a curious streak. Believing it to be nothing more than a story told to him by his grandfather, the boy and a pair of fellow schoolmates investigate a nearby cave after Hyoma has a dream about a shaft of light leading to an alternate world. Surprise, surprise, the dream was more prophetic than the trio think and in a blinding flash of light, they're transported to Endia.

Almost immediately Hyoma is thrust into circumstances well beyond anything he would have experienced in the "normal" world. He quickly meets up with Rin, a "Gate Keeper" who, after being rescued from an attack by a couple of adorable little blobs who are apparently a serious threat, explains that she can control the basic teleportation of people and things from different dimensions. Hyoma and friends, it seems, passed through one of these gates into Endia, a massive floating world with little islands surrounded by a vast ocean that literally overflows off the edge of the world.

Interestingly enough, Hyoma is not the first visitor to this dimension. Travelers are regularly deposited at this cosmic bus stop about once a year, and dubbed "Knights" on account of their basic role of becoming protectors -- oh, and the trip imbues all Knights with special powers, namely the ability to "Realize," which transforms them into ultra-powerful forms that can wield more advanced versions of their normal weapons. This news hits Hyoma in rather rapid-fire succession, and he responds with his typical blasé retorts. Knights and spells and Gate Keepers and stuff are fun, but he'd rather just head home with his friends, who seem to have been deposited elsewhere during the gate trip.

Then the bad news hits: travel to Endia is one-way.

that's all more or less. what do you guys think?

July 14, 2008 - Square-Enix has announced Final Fantasy XIII for Xbox 360 at Microsoft's E3 press conference.

The announcement debuted in the form of a new trailer which initially looked like a Panzer Dragoon game with dragons flying in a trench. A ship lands in the trailer and flying mechanical soldiers drop out. Included in the trailer were massive airships.

A hint of gamplay was shown and the graphics looked awesome.

Breaking news from the Microsoft E3 2008 press conference. Square Enix head honcho Yoichi Wada took the stage to announce Final Fantasy XIII for the Xbox 360.

Yes, just take a moment to soak that up. Final Fantasy XIII coming to the Xbox 360. Holy fucking shit. Simultaneous release in Europe and North America with PS3. Wow.

From Gamespot.com (http://www.gamespot.com/news/6193730.htm...op;title;2)

LOS ANGELES--At the 2005 Electronic Entertainment Expo, Microsoft presented what it thought was a major announcement from a top Japanese developer, Square Enix. Unfortunately, the "news" proved a tad anticlimactic, considering that the game in question was Final Fantasy XI, a massively multiplayer online role-playing game previously released on the PC in 2003 and the PlayStation 2 in 2004. Despite a sizeable PR push, the 360 edition of the game was lukewarmly received by critics and consumers, who barely bought 213,000 copies of it in the US.

Over the next three years, Microsoft would announce several more Square Enix games for the Xbox 360, including the exclusive Star Ocean: The Last Hope and the timed exclusive The Last Remnant. However, in many gamers' minds these projects were dwarfed in importance by the stature of two other Square Enix games: Final Fantasy XIII and Final Fantasy XIII Versus, both PlayStation 3 exclusives...

...until today.

This morning at its press briefing at the E3 Media & Business Summit, Microsoft stunned many in the audience by announcing that Final Fantasy XIII is now in development for the Xbox 360. Not only is the game coming to the console, but it will arrive on the same day and date as the PlayStation 3 edition of the game, with no timed exclusivity of any kind. However, when exactly that is remains a mystery, given that the graphics-intensive role-playing game still has no firm release date.

"We believe that releasing an Xbox 360 version of Final Fantasy XIII will allow us to provide the game to even more fans in the two regions of North America and Europe," Square Enix boss Yoichi Wada told a stunned audience. No mentioned was made of Japan, where the 360 is far less popular than the PS3.

Wada also used today's event to announced the release date of the 360-exclusive Last Remnant as being November 20 in North America. Square Enix's timed 360 exclusive, Infinite Undiscovery, will ship in North America on September 2, Europe and the UK on September 5, and Japan and Asia on September 11. [GameSpot initially reported Last Remnant as having Infinite Undiscovery's release dates, and regrets the error.

Check back throughout the week for previews and impressions of Square Enix's game lineup from E3 2008.

From Gamespot

(linked from http://www.gamespot.com/news/6193485.htm...p;title;18)

As promised during the second week of June, Activision held a shareholder's meeting to vote on the proposed merger with Vivendi Games. And as expected, investors in the Santa Monica-based publisher approved by an overwhelming majority the $18.9 billion deal that first surfaced in December. In a statement, Activision noted that "all of the proposals required to effect the transaction received more than 92 percent of the shares voted."

Following the terms of the deal, Vivendi Games--the interactive games division of France-based media conglomerate Vivendi SA and parent company of Blizzard Entertainment and Sierra Entertainment--will become a wholly owned subsidiary of Activision. As previously noted, the merger is expected to wrap on or about July 9, at which point the company will be rebranded Activision Blizzard.

In addition to converting Vivendi Games stock into 295.3 million shares of newly issued Activision stock, Vivendi SA will purchase an additional 62.9 million shares at the agreed-upon price of $27.50 apiece. That stock buy will give Vivendi SA a controlling stake in Activision Blizzard.

Though Vivendi SA will maintain a controlling stake, the publishers said in December that current Activision CEO Robert Kotick will maintain his position as group CEO and president, and Vivendi Games chief Bruce Hack will slot in as chief corporate officer and vice chairman. Mike Griffith will reprise his position as president and CEO of Activision Publishing, and the Guitar Hero publisher's chief financial officer Thomas Tippl will also transition into a similar role at the new company. Jean-Francois Grollemund, Vivendi Games' CFO, will become Activision Blizzard's chief accounting officer.

I spend too much time playing video games, I like Final fantasy, Zelda, Fire emblem, Super Smash bros, etc etc. For the record, my opinion of Final Fantasy VII is that is was a very nice game, but was no better than FF VI.
In general i guess lean more towards oldschool games than newer ones.

The rumor has once again returned, thanks to translated information taken from Japanese gaming magazine, Dengeki. According to the beloved character designer for the legendary franchise, Tetsuya Nomura, "a big announcement is being prepared for Final Fantasy VII," and it has nothing to do with the scheduled release of "Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children Complete." The announcement won't come at E3 next week, but at Square-Enix's private party - the weirdly labeled "DKS3713" - in August. Okay, so we've heard promising stuff like this before; it gets us all worked up and hopeful, and then they reveal some PSP spin-off or something, and we're all disappointed again. So it's probably not a good idea to start believing in what many are saying is the impossible, but...we can't help but cross our fingers once more.

What do you think, will it be true this time?
